Livets skörhet och skönheten i det defekta är ett tema jag ofta utforskar. Det är inte den perfekta ytan som är intressant utan den med sprickor .Det som är brutet och skevt men trots det, eller tack vare det, vackert. Ärligt. Levande. Glaset som material passar mina teman.

 Jag gör oftast ett slags ”pussel”, ett collage, lager på lager…Under ytan skymtar andra färger och mönster. Många små bitar bildar en helhet. Varje bild kan samtidigt vara en del av ett större sammanhang. Verkligheten är alltid större!

Jag inspireras mycket av kartor, folkkonst från olika kulturer, historiska bilder, texter, gamla katedraler med bara fragment av målningar och mosaiker, rivningstomter…platser som bara ger oss en del av historien, som påminner oss om att vi aldrig ser hela bilden, och att det är bra!

 

Utgångspunkten är oftast fönsterglas som jag målar, screentrycker och sedan smälter ihop i flera lager i en glasugn. Jag gör också min egen glasmosaik som jag sedan bygger bilder med på en stomme av trä.

 Jag arbetar också med offentlig miljö och tycker att det är en fantastisk utmaning att låta färger och motiv möta en speciell plats med en speciell funktion. Jag har bla. gjort väggar i laminatglas, fusade fönster, glasmosaik på pelare  och arbetat i vitt skilda miljöer som barnsjukhus, kontor, fängelse, brandstation mm

Artist statement 

Focus in my work is often  the fragility of life, the beauty of the non perfect.In my work I move between abstract painting and screen-printed photos, texts and fragments from history, a kind of poetic “archaeological” findings from the inner life. 

Colour is one of my main interests, and I paint in the colouristic tradition on the glass. Chagall, Paul Klee, Antoni Gaudi are some of the artists who have inspired me. Playful, deep, poetic, inventive... 

 

Historical images, folk art, old weavings, Russian icons,remnants of buildings,egyptian sculptures and everyday life inspires me.Maps and old patterns are also an inspiration. To me it speaks about how we are all connected through time and space, longing for beauty, love and communication. A desire to create and explore.

 

My work is mainly created from floatglass, painted and printed with glass paint, fired and fused in several layers, sometimes sandcast in relief . My mosaic objects are made from wood or concrete, covered with my own painted and printed mosaic.

I have created several public commissions in schools,hospitals,officebuildings, a prison church and many other places. I find the challenge to work in a certain setting with special demands very inspiring. In my public work I have used glass mosaic,screenprinted and fused glass, laminated glass etc.
